Letters: Better jobs before additional low-cost housing
I have a problem with the seemingly endless building of more low-cost housing in Bennington. I believe we need better jobs before we need additional housing.
I also have a problem with the social service merry-go-round which includes Vermont, New York and Massachusetts. This describes how school students, for instance, are flipped from state to state mainly to secure benefits. The lack of care or interest by short term residents often causes damage to these new properties.
Having worked for the environmental commission, I also do not understand how major changes can be made or overlooked in the process involved with the Applemans Condos. These were well-designed units off South Street.
When $15 an hour is paid by the many national food and retail franchises in our area, I will change my opinion on the need for good housing.
