Letters: Bakery parking available as issues are dealt with

Monday December 17, 2012

To our loyal customers. You may be aware that the street-side parking stalls in front of our bakery, Bakkerij Krijnen, at 1001 East Main St. have been misallocated by the town of Bennington by request of Mr. Joseph A. Kelly, SW regional traffic investigator with the Highway Safety and Design Section of the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

We have been assured by town officials that [some of] the street-side parking stalls will be returned once a letter from the town of Bennington expressing an interest in performing the required work on a Class I Highway at their expense and/or labor is received by the state. However, the work will require approximately 600 feet of line striping to be ground off and repainted (centerline as well as fog lines) in addition to the parking area. This work is dependent on the weather, and town officials have not committed to a projected or estimated date of completion. We have also been assured by town officials that on-street parking is [still] legal in front of our shop and that our customers will not be ticketed for parking on the street.

Customers may continue to park on the street, in front of our bakery or off-street on the east side of our building; however it is advisable to back into this parking area from Main Street/Route 9 rather than backing out into traffic. There are a couple of off-street parking spaces to the east of our building on the Burgess Road side and on-street parking is permissible on most side streets (Gage, Oaks) in the area if you don't mind a short stroll to our shop.

Your continued patronage through this ordeal, the holidays and into the new year is sincerely appreciated.
