Letter to the editor: Thanks to Bennington Free Clinic supporters

Thanks to supporters

Thank you to the voters of Bennington, Pownal, and Shaftsbury for approving funding for the Bennington Free Clinic at Town Meeting.

In 2015, the Free Clinic had another busy year. Our volunteer doctors and nurses provided services to 460 uninsured patients. We screened 121 patients for alcohol and substance use and abuse, and other mental health issues; and provided follow-up services. Our certified Vermont Health Connect navigators enrolled 302 families in health insurance policies.

But we could do little without the generous support of our community. We are grateful.

The Bennington Free Clinic is a program of Greater Bennington Interfaith Community Services, Inc. (GBICS) which also runs the Kitchen Cupboard, the Food & Fuel Fund, Ladies First (a women's health outreach and education service), and other programs.

— Charlie Gingo, chair of Greater Bennington Interfaith Community Services Inc. Bennington
