Letter to the editor: Thank you to Big Truck Night volunteers
Thank you to Big Truck Night volunteers
The Shaftsbury Elementary School community would like to thank everyone that made our annual Big Truck Night a huge success, it was one of our best events to date. I would first like to thank the Shaftsbury Parent Teacher Organization who coordinates the event each year to bring Shaftsbury and surrounding communities together for some family fun. Thank you to all of the parents, staff, and other volunteers for their time running the games and activities. Thank you to all who came out on Friday night. Finally, thank you to all of the organizations that brought trucks: The Arlington Fire Department, Morse Towing, Dave Vanderwerken, The Vermont State Police, Green Mountain Power, U.S. Postal Service, The Bennington Fire Department, Curtis Lumber, The Shaftsbury Fire Department, TAM, Peckham/Daily's Industries, The Town of Shaftsbury and the Bennington Police Department.
The funds raised from this event will defer the cost of transportation for field trips, special t-shirts for 6th grade graduates, Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week recognition luncheon and activities, allotment of money for each classroom for the Scholastic Book Fair, as well as sponsoring enrichment groups and activities like the Montshire Museum Science Residency Program. The Shaftsbury PTO also gives back to our community with previous donations to the Shaftsbury Elementary School Music Program, books and monies to the Mary Monroe Hawkins Learning Center and the Cancer Crusaders.
Thank you again and hope to see you all next year.
— Jeff Johnson, principal, Shaftsbury Elementary School
