Letter to the editor: No more studies, time for action.
No more studies, time for action.
This is an open letter to the Select Board.
Enough already with the studies! It's time to do something about attracting businesses to downtown Bennington. So far, the effort hasn't been very effective. The fault is not with the downtown real estate or its location; it's because we haven't been creative enough.
What's needed is action. The Select Board should appoint a committee consisting of business people and at least two members of the Select Board (Jean Conner and Jeanie Jenkins are good choices) and charge it to start this important work. That committee should hold a public hearing of business people to hear what they have to say about the challenge. Public discussion may bring out the new ideas we need to bring more energy and new investment to the Bennington economy.
I intend to bring this idea to the Select Board at one of its next meetings. It's well past time to show measurable results.
