I Support Phil Scott for governor

On Aug. 9, Vermonters will head to the polls to determine who the nominees for Governor are. Regardless of which ballot you decide to vote on—Democrat, Republican, or Progressive—we all want to see our state move forward.

Unfortunately, we're in a position where Vermont is falling behind. In recent years, Vermont has fallen in the "top ten" list for hardest state to make a living, most expensive state, and most difficult state for business. Education property taxes continue to skyrocket, while our student population continues to shrink. Rising health care premiums and a dysfunctional health care exchange further pinch the pocketbooks of many Vermonters. And despite some progress, many communities still suffer greatly from the opiate crisis that our state is facing.

But there is hope. That's why I'm voting for Phil Scott for Governor. Phil grew up in Barre, runs a small construction business, and understands the rising cost of living that so many Vermonters are facing. His blue-collar roots run deep. He isn't just another politician—which is why he has such broad appeal from all sides of the aisle. As Lieutenant Governor, Phil has brought people together — Republicans, Democrats, and Progressives—to find common sense solutions to problems that we all face; problems that transcend party affiliations.

As Governor, Phil would hold state budget increases to the growth rate of Vermonters' wages in order to balance the budget; invest in economic development, workforce training, and technical education; move away from the dysfunctional and costly Vermont Health Connect; and finally, reform Act 46 to create real structural savings in our education financing system that produce property tax relief for Vermonters. Phil will restore much needed faith and trust in state government.

I hope that you'll join me on August 9 th in requesting a Republican ballot to vote for Phil Scott for Governor.
