Letter: Mayor would mean more accountability

To the Editor:

I find it offensive when suggestions are made that a mayoral system would somehow be inferior to the situation we currently have (and have had for many decades).

There is nothing like a democratic system, where each vote counts, and each vote is to support or oppose a particular issue.

There is nothing worse than a vote by proxy — for someone else to cast that vote on your behalf — such as members of the select board.

A personal vote for a mayor would result in greater transparency, greater accountability.

Last but not least, what is going on about those absurdly high salaries?
