Letter: Current government serves town well

To the Editor:

Our Select Board is a governing body, elected by the residents on a rotating basis and composed of folks from many walks of life, who are sworn to represent the best interests of the town by their directives to the town manager and staff. They make themselves available to hear our thoughts and seek reasonable solutions to problems.

They listen to citizens' ideas and requests and must weigh them within the confines of the budget, state and federal laws and many other factors.

They greatly rely on the knowledge, expertise and advice of the town manager and staff who have the professional training, experience and background that is absolutely necessary for good decision making. This process provides continuity as well.

Since the town manager and staff answer to the Select Board, the are able to spend their time serving us, free from the political infighting which might rear its ugly head under a mayoral system.

We all have in common, the desire for the continual progress and improvement of our community. It is my sincere belief that these goals are best accomplished by our current form of government and I urge you to vote no on ballot Article 2 on March 6.
