Late goal dooms BBA against Hartford
"We had plenty of pressure, we're taking plenty of shots, but we know the ball will be bobbled [in the box]," Mull said. "It's hard to hold on to. Instead of watching and depending on the perfect shot, we have to expect everything to be garbage and cleaned up."
Tied at 1-1 as time wound down in the second half, Hartford sophomore Nick Jones got free and fired a shot past BBA goalie Joe Hancock for the game-winner in the 72nd minute.
"It was just unfortunate, we played good all night," Mull said. "We just let him in unmarked and he had a free shot and he finished, so a credit to him to do that. They also worked really hard on defense and didn't give us any good shots. We had plenty of pressure, but the defense made the plays when they had to."
Hartford took the early advantage 3:16 into the match when Pat McGlone got deep into the 6-yard box and fired a shot that went off the far post and bounced in past BBA senior keeper Joe Hancock for a 1-0 lead.
Seventeen seconds later, Burr and Burton got the jump and immediately pressure on, resulting in a Ben Stewart goal to tie the game. The score was Stewart's ninth of the season.
"It took away their momentum and turned the rest of a game into a dog fight," Mull said
Alex Valley was in goal for the Hurricanes and had 15 saves, while Hancock had to make five stops for the Bulldogs.
BBA is 6-5-2 and has one more regular season game on Thursday at Rutland before the playoffs begin next week.
