Landlord pleads not guilty to 88 housing violation charges

BURLINGTON, VT. >> A Burlington landlord has pleaded not guilty to more than 80 charges related to several alleged housing violations at his properties.

The Burlington Free Press reports Soon Kwon entered the plea Thursday. He is facing a possible $500 fine and 30 days in jail for each count if he's convicted on all 88 charges.

Kwon owns four apartment buildings in Burlington. Code Enforcement Director Bill Ward says all of them have outstanding code violations as of January.

Housing inspectors have cited Kwon for alleged violations including broken plumbing, defective heating and a pigeon infestation.

Ward says some of these issues could present health and safety concerns to tenants.

Kwon said in a news release Wednesday that he feels targeted and is looking forward to his day in court.
