Jury to decide NY dentist's fate in fatal poisoning of rival
KINGSTON, N.Y. >> Jury deliberations have begun in the murder trial of a Hudson Valley dentist charged with fatally poisoning his lover's husband five years ago.
An Ulster County Court jury had been deliberating Monday in the second-degree murder trial of 49-year-old Gilberto Nunez of Poughkeepsie. Prosecutors say he killed Thomas Kolman of Saugerties by giving him coffee laced with a fatal dose of a dental sedative.
The 44-year-old Kolman's body was found inside his vehicle in a gym's parking lot outside Kingston in November 2011. Prosecutors say Nunez was having an affair with Kolman's wife and killed him because he wanted the husband out of the way.
Nunez's defense attorney called the prosecution's version of the events "fantasy."
Deliberations will resume Tuesday after the jury rehears some of the trial's testimony.
