Investigation into Northfield explosion turned over to ATF


NORTHFIELD, VT. >> The investigation into a pipe bomb explosion that injured four people in central Vermont has been turned over to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The Burlington Free Press reports the <URL destination="">FBI and Vermont State Police will assist the ATF in investigating the Wednesday evening explosion at an apartment in Northfield.

Lt. </URL>Lance Burnham said Thursday afternoon that one victim lost a hand and another lost part of a hand when a homemade pipe bomb went off in the home.

Eric Miller, U.S. Attorney for the District of Vermont, says the ATF notified his office of the incident and he will review the case for possible charges within the coming days.

Miller says it's a federal felony to be in possession of an unregistered pipe bomb.
