MONTPELIER >> Rain has turned roads slick and led vehicle accidents around Vermont.

Vermont State Police said Tuesday afternoon that Interstate 91 south between exits 14 and 15 in Fairlee has been shut down due to icy conditions and crashes.

In the morning police while they were investigating the report of a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 89 south in Colchester another three-vehicle crash occurred due to the traffic backup.

One of the vehicles caught fire in the second crash, trapping the driver. A state trooper and bystander pulled the injured woman from her vehicle. She and another driver were taken to the hospital.

Later in the day, both lanes of interstate 89 between Montpelier and Berlin were closed for a time due to a multi-vehicle crash and icy conditions.
