Horse killed after being hit by two vehicles

POWNAL -- A horse was killed Wednesday after it was hit on Route 7 by two vehicles.

State Police said at approximately 6 a.m. troopers were dispatched to the area south of the Pownal View Barn where there were two heavily damaged vehicles and a dead horse in the roadway.

Police said Dieter Jaenecke, 62, of Bennington, was driving south in a 2012 Subaru Impreza when he struck one of three horses in the roadway. Traveling behind him was Joseph Ciuk, 52, driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota. Ciuk was also unable to avoid hitting the animal.

Jaenecke and Ciuk were not injured. Pownal Constable Albert LaFontaine assisted with the investigation.
