Hoosick Falls wrestling finishes third at Berkshire Holiday Tournament
GREAT BARRINGTON, MASS. >> With four individual winners at the Berkshire Holiday Tournament on Wednesday, the Hoosick Falls wrestling team placed third out of 11 teams at the annual tournament held at Monument Mountain Regional High School.
The Panthers got individual wins from Matt Laporte (99 pounds), Gabe Fischer (106), Jake Pine (220) and Alex Hull (285) to finish with 147.5 team points. Taconic (MA) finished first with 207.5, and Maple Hill finished with 158.5.
All four Hoosick Falls winners won in style, with the lighter weights going Laporte by fall over Maple Hill's Joe Merhige at 2:18, and a majority decision for Fischer, 16-2, over Mount Everett (MA)'s Anthony Lupiani. In the upper weights, Pine won by fall over Mount Greylock's Hunter Abriel in 4:44, and Hull finished off Mount Anthony's Zac Oldham at the 1:59 mark. Sam Richards finished second at 126, falling to Maple Hill's Bryan Kern by fall at 1:22.
The Panthers also got fourth-place finishes from Logan Powers (132) and Lucas Brogue (145).
Mount Anthony sent its varsity 'B' team to the match, and the Patriots finished sixth with 121 points.
MAU got individual wins from Noah Call (113) and Zach Sauer (145). Call won by fall over Maple Hill's Nicholas Reese at 1:17, and Sauer won by decision, 13-8, over Taconic's Nick Bailey.
Oldham lost to Hull in the aforementioned heavyweight tilt. Dylan Ross (99) finished third, as did Colin Crowley (182). Bryce Bush finished fourth at 220.
