LANSINGBURGH, N.Y. -- The Hoosick Falls Central School softball team was stymied by Catholic Central hurler Sammi Allen, who held the Panthers to two hits in a 6-0 loss on Thursday.
Allen also added two singles and Shelby Fenton had a double for the Crusaders.
For the Panthers, Erika Quackenbush allowed six runs, but also struck out six. Maddy Atherton and Jennifer Sargood had the base hits as Hoosick Falls drops to 2-1 overall.
SVC baseball splits
WENHAM, Mass. -- The Southern Vermont College baseball team split a doubleheader Thursday against Gordon College, winning Game 1, 10-6, and losing Game 2, 5-4.
In Game 1, SVC took a 5-4 lead into the seventh inning and scored five runs in the frame to pull away.
RJ Pingitore was 2-for-2 with a double, two steals and two RBIs to lead SVC’s offense in Game 1.
On the mound, Dustyn Marfyak earned his second win of the year, allowing 10 hits and four runs, three earned.
In Game 2, SVC led 4-2 into the fifth, but Gordon scored three runs to take the lead. R.J. Henle dropped to 0-3 on the season, allowing three runs in relief.
Benn Road Race May 4
BENNINGTON -- The 26th annual Steve Zemianek Bennington Road Race will be held on Sunday, May 4 beginning at the Park McCullough house in North Bennington.
This year’s event is dedicated to the memory of local educator and marathon runner Gail Harwood. The race is produced and directed by the Batten Kill Valley Runners.
All net proceeds will be donated to the Mount Anthony Union High School Zemianek scholarship fund.
The kids race will begin at 9:30 a.m., and the 3.8K and 10K races will start at 10 a.m.
Registration is $15 in advance and $20 after May 1.
Runners can register online at runreg.com. Paper registration is available at Wills Insurance, Bennington Recreation Center, Off the Wall, Anytime Fitness, Bennington Sports Center and all schools in Bennington and North Bennington.
Masters swim meet
BENNINGTON -- The 3rd annual Monumental Masters Mini Meet will be held on Saturday, April 26 at the Bennington Recreation Center on Gage Street.
Adults over the age of 18 are encouraged to swim, no prior competition is required. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Bennington Marauders swim team.
Warm-ups start at 9 a.m., with the first event beginning at 10 a.m.
Pre-registration is $15 per swimmer by April 22, or $20 the day of the event. Forms are available at the Rec Center, or email email@example.com for more info.
Bennington Basketball School
BENNINGTON -- Applications are now being accepted for the Bennington Basketball School for Boys. The camp runs from July 7 to July 11. Players aged 12-15 will practice from 8 a.m. to noon, and 7-11 will practice from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.
