HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- What began last year as Hoosical Chairs has evolved into the Hoosick Armory Youth Center and Community Coalition (HAYC3)’s biggest fundraiser: Hoosical Furnishings.

Today at 7:30 p.m., head over to HAYC3 to see and bidg on over 50 furnishings by 60 local artists to benefit the armory. The evening begins with a classic reception and the auction will begin at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $20 for member and $30 for non-members.

"Hoosical Furnishings is now a permanent celebration which will happen every year in May," said Jason Jansen, gallery and community outreach manager, for HAYC3.

For last year’s event, HAYC3 members gathered Adirondack chairs and had local artists decorate them to be sold. The armory was able to generate $20,000 after expenses, making it the biggest fundraiser ever for the organization.

This year it has expanded into all types of furnishings for the home and outdoors, including rocking chairs, stools, trunks, mirrors and more.

Many of the pieces were purchased from Seifert’s Auction House in Hoosick, N.Y. before they were handed over to artists to transform.

"We had one community member make a doghouse," Jansen said. "I mean a dog house of the gods with a porch and everything Š there will be something for everybody."

Some of the artists purchased furnishings from yard sales on their own in anticipation of this year’s fundraiser.

"One of the things I think is important for the community to know is that really anyone can participate. It doesn’t have to be limited to the list (of artists) we have. But we welcome anyone who would like to participate and be a part of it," said Patti Zilinskas, community liaison for HAYC3.

Zilinskas added when they went through their list of local artists who hadn’t participated last year, they only received yeses to their requests for contributors.

"There’s really a willingness on their part to show their art and support the community," she said.

There are around 60 artists participating, up from last year’s 50, not counting the the students of Hoosick Falls Central School and St. Mary’s Academy who have worked with their teachers to decorate the furnishings. There 20 percent more pieces up for auction than last year as well.

"(These pieces) are functional and unique," Zilinskas said.
