Heather Quire named new SVC dean of students
BENNINGTON >> Southern Vermont College has named Heather Quire as its new dean of students and associate provost for student affairs.
She began working in the position on Aug. 1 and replaces Anne Hopkins Gross, who left the college in June to become the vice president for student affairs for the State University in New York Cobleskill. Gross had served in that position since 2007.
According to a press release from the college, "In the position of Associate Provost for Student Affairs & Dean of Students at Southern Vermont College, Quire will have responsibility for students' residential learning experience, for student conduct, for student involvement and civic engagement, for student health and counseling services, and for working closely with professors and others at the College to make sure the environment for student learning and success is powerful."
Quire is a native of Pennsylvania, and previously was an administrator at Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, and Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. She is a graduate of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pa., where she received her bachelor's degree in information systems, and Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where she received her master's degree in education.
"I am excited about joining the SVC community and moving back to the bucolic setting of the Berkshires," said Quire, "My role as the dean of students will be filled with new collaborations and amazing opportunities keeping the student experience in mind. The importance of this position is to focus on what is best for the student's experience both in the classroom and outside of the classroom; my vision is for students to get the most out of their experience at Southern Vermont College, to be the best individuals beyond their college years."
"Heather Quire brings to the position of Associate Provost for Student Affairs & Dean of Students qualities and abilities that are absolutely essential for our students," said Jay White, provost and dean of the college at SVC, "We blend what students experience intellectually in the classroom, studio, and laboratory with what they experience socially in the residence hall, the dining hall, and the athletic field. Heather's exceptional abilities applied to the critical position of Dean of Students will make this work in a grand way."
