Hall named NECC Player of the Week
BENNINGTON >> Senior forward Casey Hall of the Southern Vermont College men's basketball team was tabbed as the New England Collegiate Conference Player of the Week, for his efforts in the NECC playoff tournament over the weekend.
Hall was named the NECC Tournament MVP after leading the Mountaineers to their first NECC title in program history.
He averaged 17 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks throughout the playoffs.
In the Mountaineers semifinals game against Regis, Hall collected a game-best 14 rebounds as the Mountaineers went on to win 73-68.
In the NECC Championship, the senior forward shot 77.8 percent from the line, while also adding two blocks and three assists, in the 74-72 victory over third-seeded Becker. He dropped game-highs of 16 and 18 points while extending his double-double streak to five games.
The Player of the Week award caps off a great few days for the senior as he was also named to the All-NECC Second Team on Monday as well.
Hall and the Mountaineers are now preparing for this weekend's NCAA DIII tournament, as they will head to Tufts University to face the hosting Jumbos in the first round on the tournament on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
MAU and BBA complete Day 1 of Nordic State Championships
RIPTON >> Both Mount Anthony Union High School and Burr and Burton Academy Nordic ski teams competed in Day one of the state tournament up at Rikert Touring Center on Tuesday.
In the girls competition, MAU finished in seventh place in Division I , while BBA placed fourth in Division II.
MAU had no girl place in the top 10 of the girls 5k freestyle event, Erica Hale was the top skier in 18th. MAU finished in sixth place in the freestyle relay race with a time of 29 minutes and 34 seconds.
Helena Bigelow placed 10th in the 5k freestyle event for BBA with a time of 15:54, while the Bulldogs came in fourth place in the freestyle relay race with a time of 29:49.
On the boys side, MAU came in eighth place in Division I, while BBA placed seventh in Division II.
BBA's Neil Thorley placed 10th with a time of 12:31 in the 5k freestyle race.
No MAU boy finished in the top 10 in the 5k freestyle competition, Thomas Hendery was the top in 24th.
The Patriots placed eighth in the freestyle relay with a team time of 26:31, while BBA came in seventh place in the Division II race with a team time of 24:07.
Day two of the championships will be on Thursday at Rikert.
Bennington Little League sign-up
BENNINGTON >> Late registration and player evaluations for the 2016 season will be held on Sunday, March 6, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and Tuesday, March 8, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Mount Anthony Union High School gymnasium.
All players ages 9 and up should plan to attend one of the two dates for evaluations unless already on a major league team.
Late registrations will also be taken at this time for any players ages 5 through 12 in the Bennington and surrounding areas.
For all new registrants, a copy of the birth certificate is required at the time of registration.
