GNAT to air interviews with moderators

SUNDERLAND — GNAT-TV, the Northshire's community media center, releases a series of eight interviews featuring current and former town moderators from the region. "The Moderators" airs daily at 6:30 p.m. on GNAT channels 15 and 8 through March. All GNAT programs may also be viewed online at

The idea for "The Moderators" sprouted in 2012 after GNAT's executive director, Tammie Reilly, attended town meetings. "I was inspired by the work of the moderators — they are volunteers wholly responsible for ensuring the democratic process. I was impressed at the professionalism, calm and ability to keep it all going.

"The interviews are a way for us to explore Town Meeting in Vermont, to capture the spirit of the moderators and to appreciate the work that they do at Town Meeting."

Participants include moderators from Arlington, Londonderry, Sandgate, Sunderland, Dorset, Weston and Winhall. The series also includes an interview with former Vermont governor Jim Douglas, who is the town moderator for Middlebury.

GNAT hopes to continue interviewing public servants. Anyone interested in participating as an interviewee or nominating someone to be interviewed should email: or call 802-362-7070.
