Foster sworn in as new school board member in Hoosick Falls
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- The first order of business at Thursday's regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting was the swearing in of new board member Bridget Foster.
Appointed to fill the vacancy left by Donald Skott, who resigned last month, Foster will serve the remainder of Skott's term which ends May 20, 2014.
"She's fully trained, she knows the goals of the district and she makes a perfect fit," said Board President Greg Laurin.
Previously, Foster served one three-year term on the board, from July 2007 through June 2010.
"Hopefully she stays and decides to run for another [full] term in the spring," said Laurin, thanking the incoming and outgoing members for their service. "We are the better for both of them being here or having been here."
Other topics discussed at the meeting were the student code of conduct, which will undergo scrutiny on its way to being redrafted, and Hoosick Falls' "tradition of inclusion." The district was lauded last week by News Channel 13 for its successes in weaving special education students into mainstream classes.
District Superintendent Ken Facine credited the teachers with seeing the potential within students and challenging them to do their best.
The next Hoosick Falls BOE meeting will be held Nov. 21 at 7 p.m.
