Former principal set to alter plea in charge involving child

CHELSEA, VT. >> Court documents filed in Orange Superior Court say a former elementary school principal accused of having inappropriate contact with a child plans to alter his plea next week.

The Valley News reports that Richard Talbot, formerly principal of Tunbridge Central School, will plead guilty at his change of plea hearing scheduled for Jan. 13 in Chelsea.

The 68-year-old initially pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of engaging in a prohibited act with a student in May.

Prosecutors say Talbot groped an 11-year-old girl during an "inappropriate hug" that took place behind the closed doors of his office in September 2014.

A school district investigation found that Talbot routinely engaged in inappropriate behavior with students at the school. He was fired in March.

Talbot's attorney didn't return requests for comment.
