Former Arlington Lions Club treasurer accused of embezzling $18,560


ARLINGTON — The former volunteer treasurer of the Arlington Lions Club has been cited for allegedly embezzling $18,560 from the organization over a period of four years.

According to State Police, Mary E. Kerner, 60, of Arlington, is scheduled to appear in Vermont Superior Court Criminal Division Bennington Unit on July 25. Police say Kerner had access to the club's debit card, which she used over 100 times for personal expenses between 2009 and 2013. The embezzlement was discovered by the new treasurer who was appointed in 2015, said police.

Kerner turner herself in at the Shaftsbury barracks on July 6. A press release indicated she was not held, nor was any bail placed upon her.
