Flynn takes MVP honors in the Wasaren League
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. >> On Sunday night, the Wasaren League girls and boys basketball all-star teams were announced, with Hoosick Falls Central School senior Megan Flynn taking home league MVP honors for her performance this season.
Flynn was one of four players from the Hoosick Falls girls basketball team that received postseason honors.
Junior Kelly Pine earned first team Wasaren League honors, while fellow junior teammate Lizza Ryan made second team all-league.
Senior Anna Wysocki received honorable mention all-league honors in her final season for the Panthers as well.
Hoosick Falls had another outstanding season, going 21-3 on the year, winning their second straight Wasaren League title and playing in their second straight Section II, Class B final.
The Cambridge Central School girls basketball team also had a host of players receive Wasaren League honors after the Indians had an impressive 15-8 season, which included making it to the semifinals of the Section II, Class C tournament.
Sophomore Helen Mooney made second team all-league for the Indians, while senior Olivia Mooney and junior Lynn Brownell each received honorable mention Wasaren League honors for the Indians.
On the boys' side, the Panthers and the Indians each had multiple players receive all-league honors.
Leading the way for the Panthers were seniors Connor McCart and Remington Hickey, who both made first team all-league from their stellar play this season for Hoosick Falls.
Seniors Alex Mendez, Kellan Skott and sophomore Guy Milliman each received honorable mention honors for the Panthers as well.
Hoosick Falls went 14-8 on the season and won a share the Wasaren League title, making it three straight years that the Panthers have been league champions.
For Cambridge, four players received honorable mention honors in the Wasaren League.
Seniors Daniel Genevick, Max Ratelle, Kordell Benson and junior Shawn Lemioux all received honorable mention honors in the league.
The Indians finished the season with a record of 8-14.
It was also announced on Sunday that the senior all-star game between the Wasaren League and the Patroon Conference will take play today at Rensselaer high school.
The girls will play at 5:30 p.m., while the boys game follow right after at 7 p.m.
