Fletcher Allen plans name change

Fletcher Allen Partners is planning to change its name and the names of its member hospitals to reflect its affiliation as a larger hospital system, a spokesperson said Wednesday.

Fletcher Allen Partners is the nonprofit parent organization of four hospitals in Vermont and New York -- Fletcher Allen Health Care, Central Vermont Medical Center, CVPH Medical Center and Elizabethtown Community Hospital.

The purpose of the name change, which still needs approval from Fletcher Allen Partner's 17-member board, would be to increase the public's awareness that the hospital system is affiliated with the University of Vermont Medical School, according to Mike Noble, a spokesman for the organization.

Fletcher Allen Partners doesn't reflect that the organization is a larger hospital system that stretches beyond the Burlington hospital, Noble said.

Noble would not say what the new names might be, and said a final decision is "many months" away.

The changes will need to be approved by the Vermont Secretary of State's Office and the New York Department of Health.
