Flagg earns NECC Player of the Week honors

BENNINGTON >> Amber Flagg of the Southern Vermont College women's basketball team won the New England Collegiate Conference women's Player of the Week award from her performance in this weekend's Curry College Tip-Off tournament.

The senior captain averaged 20 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals in the two games of the tournament, and her game-high 24 points led the Mountaineers to their 16-point win in Sunday's game against Wellesley College.

Her performance propelled the Mountaineers to their first 2-1 start since the 2008-09 season.

It marks the third time Flagg has won NECC Player of the Week honors in her career and the second week in a row that an SVC player has won the award. Fellow senior Turquoia Johnson won it last week.

During Saturday's game against Curry, Flagg became SVC's all-time steals leader with 193 steals in her career and became the sixth player in school history to reach 1,400 career points.

SVC's next game will be on Monday when they head into the Capital District to play Sage College.
