First Wings and Winter Homebrew Fest opens Saturday

Posted
BENNINGTON — Local restaurants and brewers will be celebrated this weekend at Bennington's first Wings and Winter Homebrew Festival.

The inaugural event is talking place this Saturday, March 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Masonic Hall on Main Street. Event organizer William Gardner, who is a brewer at Madison's Brewing Company, said that guests will have the ability to sample nearly 100 different home-brewed beverages, include beer, wine, cider, and mead. There will also be wings from local establishments including Madison's, Kevin's Sports Pub and Restaurant, the Tap House at Catamount Glass, JC's Tavern, and Ramunto's Brick Oven Pizza.

Unlike at the summer homebrew competition, which was held at the Four Corners North, near Catamount Glass, guests will not vote on their favorite beverage, but instead their favorite brewer. Each brewer will have several different varieties to try. There will also be a contest for best wings.

A small sample of those who will be participating includes John Lee, who will be representing the Saratoga Thoroughbrews Homebrew Club and his own Dogdoor Brewing and bringing his Powertail Pale Ale, Howling at Strangers India Pale Ale, Wrinkles Porter, and Admiral Vasily Barrell-Aged Russian Imperial Stout; Kiev Ratee of Invisible Mountain Brewing, who will bring his Abbaye Road Belgian Amber Ale, Crooked Oak Hard Cider, Weizenstoss Bavarian-style Hefeweizen, and Walking Dead Pale Ale; Karl Oswald of Starl Brewing, who will feature Pirate Kitty Porter, a yet-to-be-named IPA, and a Kriek lambic made with Michigan cherries.
