HOOSICK FALLS N.Y. -- A late night fire caused extensive damage to Farrara’s Pub & Grill in Hoosick Falls on Friday night.

The fire, which was called in at about 11:20 p. m. , happened while the restaurant and bar was open with customers, police said. Nobody was injured.

Firefighters spent all night fighting the blaze.

Hoosick Falls police were flagged down by staff at the restaurant on Classic Street, who alerted them to the fire, Hoosick Falls Police Officer Stephen Coonradt said. The fire burned out part of the back of the building, Coonradt said. The 42 Classic St. structure is still standing, though it is not clear when the restaurant will be able to open again.

"They have to do a lot of rebuilding," Hoosick Falls Fire Department Chief Carlton Coon said. He believes the building can be saved.

Coon said the fire likely began in the basement and kitchen area, though that is still under investigation. State fire investigators were at the scene on Saturday morning looking into the cause.

The worst of the fire was put out by about 4:30 a. m. , Coon said.

Firefighters continued working on hotspots until about 7:30 a. m. , he said.

"It was a very, very stubborn fire." The freezing temperatures and voids between the floors, contributed to the length of time it took to take down the fire.

The voids, Coon said, made the fire "hard to get to." He credited assistance and equipment from the Bennington Fire Department in helping to get to the voids. Hoses froze up due to temperatures hovering around zero. "There was a lot of ice," he said.

The Hoosick Falls Fire Department, Hoosick Falls Police Department, North Hoosick Falls Fire Department, West Hoosick Fire Department, Cambridge Fire Department, Petersburgh Fire Department, Pittstown Volunteer Fire Department and Greenwich Fire Department all responded to the scene.
