Family Dollar truck collides with train overpass

Posted

BENNINGTON — Just before midnight on Saturday, Aug. 27, a Family Dollar truck was traveling north on Route 7A and Hardwood Hill Road. The driver failed to clear the 12-foot train overpass and caused damage to the entire top of the truck.

T&T Towing owner Tom Brenner said he was contacted when it happened but couldn't get to the scene until Sunday morning at 8 a.m. At 1 p.m. on Sunday, he said there would be four hours of work left because the truck had to be "chopped up" before being towed. A crew of about six people worked to unpack the truck full of perishable food items and kitchen supplies and appliances. Brenner said that he was told the overpass height warning sign fell into the truck during the collision.
