Ex-Burlington police officer pleads guilty to simple assault

ST. ALBANS, VT. >> A former Burlington police officer whose daughter accused him of assaulting her on several occasions has pleaded guilty to simple assault.

The Burlington Free Press reports 46-year-old Nathan Harvey entered the plea on Tuesday in St. Albans to two misdemeanor counts of simple assault. He was initially accused of domestic assault.

Harvey was sentenced to three months to two years in prison, which was all suspended. That means he will serve probation for the duration of the sentence.

The Swanton man had served with the Burlington Police Department since 2008. He resigned last April after the charges were brought against him.

His lawyer says he believed the resolution was "very fair."
