Equinox Terrace invites community to compete in decorating trees
MANCHESTER — In an effort to spread holiday cheer, the Equinox Terrace assisted living community welcomes the public to participate in a tree decorating contest, with hopes to benefit local charities.
For a second year, the Equinox will host a holiday theme competition. Last year's theme was Gingerbread Houses, and this years is the "Parade of Trees."
"Last year we had a very good turnout and people put a lot of effort into their gingerbread houses," Ann Bouza, executive director of the Equinox said. "We wanted to have a different variation and think of new festive ideas, so we decided on decorating trees."
A two-foot, artificial tree must be decorated festively and the top three winners will be in the running for cash prizes up to $200 and a donation to their preferred local charity. Additionally, three school-aged groups were added to the contestants.
Winners of "Best Student Entry" in each age category will receive $100. Sections range from kindergarten through fourth grade, fifth through eighth grade and ninth through 12th grade.
Aside from the student group, first place winner receives $200, second place $150 and third place $100, in addition to the $50 toward a charity of each winner's choice.
When deciding which charity to donate to, Bouza said the Equinox has a list of most local organizations, but ultimately it's up to the winner. Last year, the same concept was included in the contest. Charities include Meals on Wheels and the Vermont Food Bank.
"We're so excited to see what people come up with for this new twist on our contest," Bouza said in a press release. "It just doesn't feel like the holidays without a Christmas tree, and we know that all of these trees will get everyone into the spirit of the holidays."
Decorated trees and entry forms must be submitted to Equinox Terrace between Dec. 7 and 11., and will be on display Dec. 14-18 for public voting. The winner announcement party will be the next day at 2 p.m.
Entry forms can be found at the Terrace's (324 Equinox Terrace Road) concierge desk Mon.-Fri. before 5 p.m. For more information on the event, contact the Equinox Terrace concierge at (802)-362-5141.
