Entertainment calendar for Feb. 15-21
A Thurber Carnival: 7:30 p.m. Dorset Players to present short stories by humorist James Thurber at the Dorset Playhouse, Cheney Road, Dorset. The theatre cafe is offering coffee and dessert opens one-hour prior to the performance. General admission to the performance is free to the public. However, voluntary donations to the Dorset Playhouse building maintenance and preservation fund are appreciated.
Kids' Dance: 7 to 9:30 p.m., North Hoosick Fire Station on Rt. 22, North Hoosick, N.Y. Students ages 9 to 14 and attend all area schools are invited to attend. Admission is $1. Parents must sign the students out after the dance.
Storybook Character Hunt: 3 to 5 p.m. Apres Ski, Saturday. Children, search for your favorite storybook characters. Complete the quest and be entered to win a Bartleby's gift card. Bartleby's Books, 17 West Main St., Wilmington.
Community supper and dance: 5 to 8 p.m. Community Hope & Action of Townshend to host this month's event with a Mardi Gras theme — beads and masks will be available. The band Bayou X will be playing Zydeco and Cajun music and teaching Zydeco dance lessons. The dinner will be from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Townshend Town Hall; music and dancing will follow upstairs from 6 to 8 p.m. For information, email email@example.com or 802-365-4700. Artist's Soiree: 4 to 6 p.m. at Start Space. View original artworks and enjoy casual conversations with artists including Dona Mara, Erika Lawlor Schmidt, Carolina Ellenbogen, Dan Mosheim and Michael D Ellenbogen. Located in the former EMS showroom next to Price Chopper, Manchester Center.
ZydeGroove: 8 p.m. The Masonic Hall, 504 Main St., Bennington. ZydeGroove, a New York based band with roots in Louisiana Cajun and Creole culture, plays a spicy mix of Cajun classics and Country Zydeco. Tickets for this Basement Music Series concert are $18 in advance at vtartxchange.org or by calling 800-838-3006 or $22 at the door. Libations provided by Thyme Tables Catering of Shaftsbury will be available for purchase.
Artist's reception: 5 to 7 p.m. Vermont-based artist Alisa Dworsky opens an exhibition of new works, including InVersion, a large scale, site-based volumetric work, at Cynthia-Reeves, located on the campus of MASS MoCA in North Adams, Mass. The exhibition runs through March 10.Ongoing
