Eagles seeking support for annual Thanksgiving Dinner for the needy

That time of year is approaching once again and we at the Bennington Fraternal Order of Eagles are getting ready for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner for senior citizens, those that are shut in, and the needy.

This is a one-day event to be held the day before Thanksgiving, Wednesday, Nov. 27, this year.

We are a non-profit organization and we are asking for your help in this important fundraiser. Every year we try to raise money to put on a Thanksgiving Day Dinner for those in the Bennington County who are in need.

We turn noone away. Last year we were able to serve over 1,000 dinners because of people like you who were generous enough to help in this important event.

Our goal is to feed everyone who needs a warm dinner on Thanksgiving.

We look forward to this event every year to help our community.

We thank you in advance for any donation (money, food, paper products, etc.) that you may be able to help us out with.

Please make any checks payable to: F.O.E. Aerie#1861 and mail to Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No. 1861, 144 North St., Bennington, VT 05201.

If you are able to donate your time as well, that would be greatly appreciated. We need drivers to deliver dinners as well as people to help us fill our to-go trays. If you are able to donate your time please stop in and sign up or come in on the day of the event. We start at approximately 11 a.m.

If you have any questions or concerns about this event, please feel free to call our Aerie at 802-442-9780.

Worthy Secretary

Bennington Aerie #1861 When will our leadership in Washington wake up?

The president and Congress have kicked-the-can-down-the-road again, pertaining to our deficit spending and the debt limit. This is very disappointing. When will our leadership in Washington wake up?

Presently, our national debt is just under $17 trillion. This year, the federal government is spending (we have not had a budget in over four years) $3. 5 trillion and our revenue is only $2.7 trillion. For every dollar the government spends, 22 cents is borrowed. We have $126 trillion unfunded liabilities.

When will this madness end?

We need to reduce our spending, bring entitlements under control and revamp our complicated tax code, before it is too late. One half of our citizens pay no federal income tax at all.

Everyone should pay something to support our government. We are all U.S. citizens.

We all should write to our Congressional representatives and ask just one question, what are your plans and when are you going to address this very serious issue?
