Dorset woman dies after crashing into telephone pole


SANDGATE - Vermont State Police say a 26-year-old woman died Tuesday after the car she was driving struck a telephone pole.

Police said Melissa Harris of Dorset was driving a 2013 Ford Escape on West Sandgate Road in Sandgate at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when she crossed the center line and left the southern edge of the road, striking a telephone pole.

She was taken by Arlington Rescue to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington with serious injuries and later died.

Arlington Fire Department responded to the crash and provided assistance. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
