Domestic assault case dropped against Vermont police officer
BURLINGTON, VT. >> Prosecutors have dropped domestic assault charges against a Vermont police officer.
WCAX-TV reports that prosecutors say the case was dropped against Ethan Thibault on Thursday, a day before jury selection. Thibault had pleaded not guilty.
Thibault has been an officer with the Burlington Police Department since 2001. The department asked state police to investigate last year when a woman received a temporary relief from abuse order against Thibault.
Chittenden County State's Attorney T.J. Donovan says the evidence raised too many questions. He opted to make a deal calling for Thibault to attend psychological and mental health counseling over the next six months.
Donovan says whether or not Thibault remains an officer is for Burlington officials to decide. Police say he's been working in an administrative support role.
