David Shaughnessy made partner at Burr and McCallum Architects

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Ann K. McCallum, Faia and F. Andrus Burr, Faia of Burr and McCallum Architects of Williamstown, Massachusetts, are pleased to announce a new partner, David Shaughnessy, who has been a vital part of the firm’s success for nearly three decades.

The work of Burr and McCallum Architects has been honored nationally and internationally with a variety of awards and publications. They have been featured in Boston Home Magazine, Design New England, Country Living, Boston Globe Magazine, and New York Times Magazine, as well as many other periodicals and books. The firm’s many awards include the Boston Society of Architects Excellence in Design, the Western Massachusetts AIA Merit Award, and Architectural Record’s Record Houses, among others. This past fall Burr and McCallum Architects was honored as one of two architecture firms inducted into the New England Design Hall of Fame. The firm is featured frequently on popular architecture and design blogs including Remodelista, ArchDaily, and Houzz.

Shaughnessy’s primary focus at Burr and McCallum is project management and he serves as the integral problem solver and decision maker in the field. His longstanding role at the company means he can turn design ideas into reality and he serves as a liaison to the many partners on each project, collaborating with contractors, suppliers, consultants, and clients. Shaughnessy’s design and management expertise can be seen locally in many Burr and McCallum projects, including private residences and commercial projects such as the Porches Inn in North Adams, the Williams College B&L Building (housing Tunnel City Coffee) in Williamstown, Wild Oats Market in Williamstown, Hemming’s Motor News in Bennington, the Fitchburg Art Museum, and several projects at the Indian Mountain School in Lakeville, Connecticut.

"Not a single project could be built without David. His knowledge of construction and attention to detail are indispensable to our projects," says McCallum. "David, Andy, and I are an efficient team with complementary skills." Burr and McCallum Architects is well-known for their award-winning and innovative design, and Shaughnessy notes how their superior approach is transformed into brick-and-mortar realism at each phase: "Ann and Andy are selective about which projects they accept. They excel at finding unusual solutions to the complexities of each project, whether they are the limitations of a site location or the complications of a particular renovation. Ann and Andy work with clients within their budget and they are at once easy going and driven. The camaraderie between us is central to the pride I feel about working at this firm."

David Shaughnessy is a long-time resident of North Bennington, Vermont, where he and his wife, Jude, raised two children, Macaela and Schuyler.
