Crews continue to battle fire at Bennington furniture store

BENNINGTON - Officials say a fire broke out at LaFlammes furniture store, 50 Harwood Hill Road, around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Crews from Bennington Fire Department, Bennington Rural Fire Department, Hoosick Falls Fire Department and other agencies responded to the fully-involved blaze at the store. Temperatures of -6 degrees and windy conditions made battling the blaze an especially dangerous effort.

Crews remained on the scene, at the intersection of 67A and Harwood Hill Road, as of 10:30 a.m. battling the fire. No cause has yet been determined.

One lane of traffic had been getting by on Route 67A/Northside Drive through about 10:30 a.m., when Bennington Police Department announced the road was closed to traffic for the remainder of the day Friday to allow emergency personnel to access the scene. Additionally, much of the road has been covered in ice due to the water sprayed on the fire.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.
