Crash knocks over pole, closes Route 9

WOODFORD -- A 19-year-old New York man was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions when he went off Route 9 and hit a utility pole, knocking it over and causing the road to be shut down temporarily.

State Police said the driver, Brandon R. Petry, of Tompkins Cover, N.Y., was not injured in the crash. He told police he was traveling east at 50 mph when he lost control on the slushy road.

The 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving received heavy front-end damage and a ruptured gas tank.
