Crash knocks down pole
BENNINGTON -- A man was injured Tuesday when his van hit a utility pole on South Stream Road, snapping the pole in two places.
According to Bennington Police Lt. Lloyd Dean, the crash happened at 11:15 a.m. when Robert Fritz, 69, of Bennington, lost control of his 1989 Dodge van. Speed was not a factor and police believe Fritz suffered a "health event." He was treated for non-life-threatening injuries by the Bennington Rescue Squad. Police were not clear on whether Fritz was taken to the hospital, but he was issued a ticket for driving without a license.
The pole fell into the road, blocking traffic for a period of time. Green Mountain Power and the Bennington Rural Fire Department were summoned to help.
