Crash injures man, knocks down pole

POWNAL -- State Police said a Pownal man said he believes he fell asleep before going off the road and hitting a utility pole, breaking it and sending wires across the road.

The crash happened on Mount Anthony Road at 4:40 p.m. Police said Stewart Park, 77, drove his 2001 Mercury Mountaineer off the south side of the road and collided head-on with a utility pole. He received a cut lip and was taken to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for further evaluation. The vehicle was heavily damaged.

Mount Anthony Road was closed with the help of the Pownal Fire Department and Bennington Rural Department. Green Mountain Power was called to deal with the pole, which fell across the road.
