Cops: NY man caught trying to use truck to steal bank ATM

OSWEGO, N.Y. >> Authorities say police checking out an alarm at a central New York bank caught a man trying to use his pickup truck to yank an ATM from the wall of a nearby bank.

WSTM-TV in Syracuse reports police in Oswego were sent to a credit union for an alarm late Wednesday night. Officers found damage to a metal door that had remained locked.

While investigating, they heard loud banging coming from a nearby credit union. Police say they found a pickup truck in the ATM lane, with a tow chain attached to the machine.

Police say the 56-year-old Oswego man driving the pickup had failed to break into the first credit union and was trying to steal the ATM from the second one. He was charged and is being held in the county jail on $20,000 bail.
