Concert: Shoni at the Music and Art Cafe
PETERSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Music and Art Cafe is pleased to announce the upcoming performance of Shoni on May 30, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center.
Shoni explores traditional celtic music and original works using bagpipes, keyboard, guitar, percussion, violin, cello, and vocals to interpret the celtic tradition.
Shoni consists of four experienced musicians:
Alannah Fitzgerald has recorded on the Front Hall and Telarc labels and her compositions have been recorded by the Empire Brass Quintet. A seasoned performer, she has appeared at the Fox Hollow Folk Festival, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, Café Lena, and the Old Songs Festival.
Martha von Schilgen is currently a member of the Tri-County Banjo Band, the Adirondack Fiddlers, and Shoni. Martha also plays with two jam groups: the Fiddlers Tour, and the Saturday jam at MassMoCA. A seasoned and versatile performer, Martha plays violin, guitar, banjo, mandolin, and cello.
Richard Simpson has been playing music since 1976 - performing at the Bradley Arts Festival, as well as venues in Switzerland and Czechoslovakia. Returning to the States he began recording work and founded Black Tie - a rock and progressive band. Since the 90's he has worked with sound design and ambient music for meditation and short films.
Ron Bakerian plays Great Highland Pipes, Scottish Parlor Pipes, whistles, and hand percussion. He enjoys blending traditional music with tribal and world music as well as creating original lyric art. He also teaches and explores organic works in blacksmithing.
