Elks hosts bingo
BENNINGTON -- Every Monday, the Bennington Elks hosts bingo. There will be a $1,000 jackpot and 31 games for $13. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 7 p.m. The Bennington Elks is located at 125 Washington Ave.
Bennington Free Clinic Monday hours
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Free Clinic has added Monday hours, in addition to its Thursday schedule. It will be open from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church, 601 Main St. Call for an appointment, 447-3700. Drop-ins will not be seen.
Bennington Free Clinic and Vermont Health Connect
BENNINGTON -- We will be making appointments for folks wishing to know more about Vermont Health Connect, and to sign up on Mondays and Thursdays.
The Bennington Free Clinic is providing free assistance to individuals, families and small businesses who have questions about the new Vermont insurance system, which was developed as part of the federal Affordable Care Act. A team of 10 trained Navigators is available to answer questions and guide consumers through the enrollment process.
Starting on Jan. 1, 2014, all people in Vermont will be required to have health insurance, either through an employer or through the new online insurance marketplace, "Vermont Health Connect." The open enrollment period began on Oct. 1, 2013. Individuals and families will need to sign up for a VHC insurance plan by Dec. 15, for coverage to start on Jan. 1, 2014. There are different sign-up deadlines for small businesses.
Navigators are available by appointment at the following times: Every Monday, 10 a.m. to noon; every Thursday, 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.; and the third Monday of each month from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Other times may be available upon request. Appointments can be made by calling 802-447-3700 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Bennington Lions Christmas Party
BENNINGTON -- The Bennington Lions will hold its annual Christmas party for visually handicapped and hearing impaired persons on Tuesday, Dec. 10 in the Bennington Station Banquet Room starting at 5:30 p.m. Guests will be treated to a dinner, gifts, and a visit from Santa. There will also be carols and songs performed by the Front Porch Ensemble.
Taconic Community Grange No. 491 meetings
SHAFTSBURY -- All meetings of Taconic Community Grange No. 491 are held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Grange Hall on Grange Road, next to the Shaftsbury Head Start building. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. There will be a Christmas program and party. Bring a Christmas poem or story or book to tell about.
Overeaters Anonymous meets
BENNINGTON -- Overeaters Anonymous meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at the Bennington Free Library, 101 Silver St.
Bingo at Moose Lodge
BENNINGTON -- Bingo is held every Tuesday at the Bennington Moose lodge. Doors open at 5 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available. There will be a $1,000 special, 58 numbers.

Story Time at Cheney Library
HOOSICK FALLS, NY -- Cheney Library will have story time for preschoolers and their caregivers on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Several of the classic tales and songs will be presented. There will be crafts and snacks. Plan to come with your preschool child.

Home Board of Trustees meeting
BENNINGTON -- The regularly scheduled bimonthly meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Vermont Veterans' Home will be held at 12:30 p.m. An executive session regarding a personnel matter will be held immediately following the open meeting. The meeting will be held at the Vermont Veterans' Home, 325 North St., in the A. Luke Crispe Multipurpose Room.

Bingo at Pownal Legion
POWNAL -- American Legion Post 90 in Pownal holds bingo on Thursdays. Doors open at 5 p.m., and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. promptly. There will be two progressive games and a snack bar will be available.
Holiday concert held
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Berkshire Community College's Annual Holiday Concert featuring the BCC Chorale and Jazz Ensemble will be held. Dr. Marjorie Rahima Hohlstein will conduct and accompany the Chorale. Jeff Link, a BCC instructor, will direct the BCC Jazz Ensemble. Concert will be held at 12:15 p.m. at Koussevitzky Arts Center in the Boland Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.
MAUHS Choirs Winter Concert
BENNINGTON -- The MAUHS Choirs, directed by Lynn Sweet, will present a Winter Concert at 7 p.m. in the MAU Auditorium. The concert will feature the MAU Choir, Chamber Singers and Da Capos in a performance titled "Hopes and Dreams." Admission is free. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected at the door to help support our local food shelves.

Spaghetti dinner benefit for George Villarini
HOOSICK FALLS, NY -- The Hoosick Falls, Cambridge, Greenwich, and Salem Little Leagues will hold a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hoosick Falls Youth Center located at the Armory in Hoosick Falls. Ages 4 and under are free; children 5 to 12, $5; adults 13-plus, $10 per person. All proceeds go directly to George Villarini to help fund the costs of medical treatment for his fight against liver cancer.
MANCHESTER -- Join Havurah Keruv of Southern Vermont as it gathers to worship and celebrate Shabbat at 6:30 p.m. at the Maple Street School. Program about health care
ARLINGTON -- Martha Canfield Library will host a presentation from 11 a.m. to noon about free assistance that is available to all Vermonters when problems arise with health care insurance and access to health care services. Staff attorney Marjorie Stinchcombe and advocate Dylan Frazer from the Vermont Health Care Ombudsman's office will present information about how Vermonters can get help from the organization's health care advocates. A question and answer session will follow.

Community Service of Remembrance
BENNINGTON -- The twenty-fifth annual Community Service of Remembrance, sponsored by Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Homes and VNA & Hospice of SVHC, will be held beginning at 2 p.m. at Mount Anthony Union High School, 301 Park St.
The interfaith service honors the memory of loved ones in our community and includes candle lighting and placing of doves on the memory tree by friends and family members in attendance. There is no cost to attend the service or to have a dove placed on the tree in memory of a loved one. All attending are invited to join us immediately following the remembrance service for a time of fellowship and refreshment.
Support, ideas and suggestions will be provided, as well as laughter and refreshments.

Bennington Historical Society meeting
BENNINGTON -- At 2 p.m. at the Ada Paresky Educational Center, the Bennington Historical Society will host Bill Budde, a professional genealogist, who will discuss the relationship between historical research and genealogical research. Budde is also the curator of the Dr. George A. Russell Collection in Arlington. He will explain how such a collection can be a useful tool in tracing family roots. The meeting is free and open to the public.
Positions open in Woodford
WOODFORD -- The Town of Woodford would like to fill the following elected positions: Auditor (3 year term), Auditor (2 year term), Auditor (single year term), Lister (3 year term), Grand Juror (1 year term), Town Agent (1 year term), elected in March 2014. Woodford also would like to fill the following appointed positions: Secretary to Select Board (term is indefinite), and E-911 Coordinator (term is indefinite). The requirements are that the individual is a current resident and registered voter or able to vote in Woodford. All current vacancies can be appointed by the Selectboard until the next Town Meeting. Submit a letter of interest.
Exhibit of Miniature Nativity Scenes
ARLINGTON -- St. James' Episcopal Church is delighted to announce "Los Nacimientos", a display of more than 50 Nativity scenes drawn from the private collection of a parishioner, Roger Cooper. This is the only exhibition of its kind in Bennington County. Everyone is invited to visit and enjoy this exhibition.
"Los Nacimientos" are available for public viewing during the Christmas season as follows: Sundays -- before and after the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. worship services; Monday through Thursday -- 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Christmas Eve, before and after the 4 and 10 p.m. services; Christmas Day, before and after our 10 a.m. service. A free guide to each of the display cases is available at the church. Everyone is invited to participate in any and all of the services and programs offered by St. James' Church.
