Christmas tree led to crash

Posted
BENNINGTON - Police said a crash on Monday was caused by a woman swerving to avoid a discarded Christmas tree.

According to Bennington police, at 5:30 p.m. on South Street near the Park Lawn Cemetery, Miranda Squires, 27, of Bennington, was headed south in a 1996 Subaru. She drove into the northbound lane to avoid a Christmas tree that had come to lie in her path, police said, but the vehicle hit the tree as well as a northbound 2003 Subaru Forester driven by Sharron Macklin, 62, also of Bennington.

Police did not release information on injuries.

Police said Squires was issued a ticket because her driver's license was suspended.
