CCS Latin students visit Skidmore and Williams

CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. -- Over the past month Cambridge Central School Latin students took advantage of remarkable local resources to make connections between antiquity and today.

On December 11, Latin I students received a tour of Skidmore college, a lesson on Saturnalia, and a pep talk about getting into and succeeding in college from Classics majors Kathryn Smith and Marion Stack. Excited from their tour, student proceeded to Creative Sparks pottery workshop in Saratoga, where they painted plates based on Roman coins they had researched in class. They had an exotic lunch at Sushi Thai Gardens before returning to school.

On January 10, Latin 7 students went to Williamstown, Mass., where college students Alice Murphy and Julia Davis led them on a tour of the campus.

In addition they explored art with classical mythological themes at the Clark Art Institute. They too enjoyed a sumptuous repast at Spice Root Indian Restaurant.

Omnes se oblectaverunt! (Everyone had a good time!)
