BSD budget defeated, others pass; all SVSU races uncontested

BENNINGTON -- The Bennington School District's budget was voted down on Tuesday, but voters passed every other district's school budget, including Mount Anthony Union's.

Every school board race in the SVSU was uncontested, and there were no write-in victories, although Woodford had no one running for its representative on the MAU board. While MAU voting results had not been received from Shaftsbury or North Bennington at press time, the Woodford representative vote stood with Ron Higgins having two votes, and Maureen O'Neil, Avis Bruce-Hurley, Charles Suss, Tim Higgins, Dick Franz, Matt Rice, and Linda Dovitski all with one vote each. The BSD budget was defeated by a margin of 989-1,028. According to Bennington Town Clerk Tim Corcoran, the MAU budget passed 1,888-1,607, although this could not be confirmed, as the results from Shaftsbury and North Bennington had not yet been received. The Shaftsbury Elementary budget passed 378-252, Woodford Hollow Elementary's budget passed 40-13, Pownal Elementary's budget passed 395-196, and North Bennington Graded School District's budget passed 177-94.

The budget for the Southwest Vermont Regional Technical School District, which runs the Career Development Center, appeared to be in no danger of failing as of press time, although a few towns had not yet reported their results for the SVRTSD vote.
