Boy struck by vehicle not seriously hurt
BENNINGTON -- A 5-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle but only received minor bumps and bruises Friday evening according to police, who said a referral was made to the Vermont Department of Children and Families because of a possible lack of proper adult supervision at the time.
Bennington Police responded to the call on Shepard Street at the Willowbrook Housing Complex at about 5:54 p.m. May 17. In a written release, police said the juvenile had ran into the street from between two parked vehicles and into the path of an oncoming 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer.
Police said the vehicle driven by Ryan O. Nystrom, 28, of Sunderland, was traveling at a low rate of speed and attempted to stop. The child was struck with the front of the vehicle and knocked to the ground. He was subsequently transported by the Bennington Rescue Squad to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for evaluation, but he suffered no serious injury.
