Bennington shoe business to open Manchester shop
MANCHESTER -- The Bennington-based Family Footwear Center will open its fifth location on Wednesday.
Fifth store, second in Vermont
The new location, which will be located in the center of Manchester at 4578 Main St., among the Manchester Designer Outlets, will be their second in Vermont, after the Bennington location.
The store will be approximately 6,000 square feet, and will employ around 10 people. The company is currently hiring for those positions; an application form may be found on their website.
The company began with the opening of the Bennington store in 1992. It was founded by Scott and Laura Feathers, the current owners of the company, and Ken Roberts, who has since retired. Since then, The Family Footwear Center has opened locations in Lenox, Mass., Troy, N.Y., and Lake George, N.Y. The company's corporate headquarters is also located in Bennington.
According to Matt Burdick, a representative at the corporate office, the Manchester location will feature several brands not seen in the other stores, including Frye, Allen Edmonds, Tecnica, and Mephisto.
The Family Footwear Center is heavily involved in local communities where their stores are located, most recently raising more than $2,000 for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Bennington. The company hopes to continue this in the Manchester location.
"Family Footwear is pleased to open its fifth store," said Scott Feathers, "We're very excited to bring our products and services to the patrons of Manchester."
