Bennington native Irene Herrick celebrates her 100th birthday
BENNINGTON -- Irene Herrick, born and raised in Bennington, will celebrate her 100th birthday today.
Herrick grew up on Dewey Street, in a house that is still owned by her sister.
Herrick worked as a nurse at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, where she met her husband, Francis, who was a doctor there. She more recently resided on Fairview Street, and has spent the last two years at the Emeritus at Fillmore Pond, according to Town Clerk Tim Corcoran.
On Wednesday, during a reporter's visit to Fillmore Pond, Herrick reminisced on the how much Bennington has changed since her childhood, saying people do so much more now, and how common it used to be to just walk into town for a haircut.
