Bennington Museum’s ABCs program says ‘Happy Birthday, George Washington!’

Posted

BENNINGTON -- On Thursday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m., Bennington Museum’s ABCs program presents Happy Birthday, George Washington!

Celebrating President’s Day with a tribute to America’s first president, participants will look at and talk about the Leroy Williams painting "Prisoners Taken at Bennington Battle, August 16, 1777."

They will talk about questions such as, "What is going on in this painting?" "How can you tell?" and "Why do all the men have gray hair?" After discussing gray-haired fashions of the 1770s, enjoy stories about the life of George Washington, have your portraits taken in full Washingtonesque regalia, make birthday cards for the president, and even enjoy a celebratory red, white and blue snack in his honor.

Developed and offered in collaboration with the Bennington Free Library, Museum ABCs is a story hour that takes place once each month in the galleries of the Bennington Museum. It was created especially for children ages 3 to 5, their parents and caregivers. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult.

Sponsored by The Bank of Bennington, Museum ABCs programs are free. Registration is not required.
